When a store starts accepting crypto payments, the first simple question is: Which wallet do the funds go to? In practice, there are two approaches.

Custodial wallet

With a custodial wallet, Zeno Bank manages the wallet that receives payments. In other words, Zeno Bank controls the infrastructure so the store does not have to worry about keys, networks, gas, or setup. Custodial Wallet This is the default mode we offer, for a clear reason: we want accepting crypto to be plug and play. You install the plugin, activate it, and within seconds you can start taking payments. No seed phrases, no extensions, no technical setup. You get a one click setup: install the plugin and start accepting payments, with no technical complexity because networks, gas, and operational details are handled for you. It is built for any store, even without crypto knowledge, and you can withdraw your funds anytime. The trade off is that you depend on a third party to hold and manage the funds, not your keys, not your coins.

Non custodial wallet

With a non custodial wallet, you control the private keys. That means funds go directly to an address you manage, and only you can move that money. You have full control because the keys are yours, and funds go directly to your wallet. The trade off is more responsibility: if you lose your keys there is no way to recover them, setup is more involved, and it requires more technical knowledge.

Why we chose custodial by default

Our goal is to make accepting crypto as easy as enabling any other payment method. Most technologies win not because they are the purest, but because they are the easiest to use. Clear examples • WhatsApp replaced SMS because it was free and instant
• Google Maps replaced paper maps and standalone GPS because you open the app and it just works
• Apple Pay and contactless grew because paying became tap and done
Payments work the same way. If accepting crypto requires technical knowledge from minute one, many people drop off. That is why we built Zeno Bank to work from day one, with as little friction as possible.

Non custodial mode, coming soon

Still, we know some stores prefer to control their keys and receive funds directly into their own wallet. That is why, in addition to the default custodial mode, we are working on a non custodial mode. In the settings, you will be able to choose which mode you want. If you choose non custodial, you will receive payments directly, with no intermediaries.
